Description

1968 Greg Noll - Aipa Hawaiian Gun *Provenance* 10' 0"

Here's a very rare Greg Noll gun with serious provenance.

This stellar big wave pintail gun was built at Greg Noll's shop in Hawaii by legend and master shaper Ben Aipa. This board was owned and surfed by 1960s big wave pioneer Max Lim. Lim was among the small group of brave souls that first surfed Waimea Bay in the 1950s.

The opening shots in the epic film, Riding Giants, is a sequence of Lim in 1963 dropping in at huge Waimea Bay. Max has appeared in numerous magazines, including cover shots.

Chosen from thousands of boards, this particular board was selected as one of eight guns featured in Longboard magazine's limited edition prints. The prints can be seen and purchased through Longboard magazine.

Any Noll gun would be the icing on the cake to a vintage surfboard collection. Considering the substantial provenance that accompanies this extreme pintail rhino chaser, it stands head and shoulders above the others.

Most collectors would agree that Greg Noll boards are highly prized and have consistently increased in value. Big wave boards from the 60s, because of rarity and demand, are easily the most valuable boards from that era. This is incomparable Greg Noll gun encompasses both investment qualities and comes with a rich Hawaiian big wave history!

This is it, the only one like it! Definitely a museum piece and a very solid investment. Greg Noll longboards sold in the March 2008 auction for $10,000-$19,000. Noll big wave guns are far more rare and collectible than the Noll longboards. And unlike the others, this amazing discovery still has it's provenance intact.

Max Lim's significant Greg Noll - Aipa Elephant Gun os preserved with it's history and is a full page feature in the full color hardcover coffee table book, Vintage Surfboards II, available later this year.

Pre-auction estimate: $15,000-$20,000. No Reserve Do not miss this one! Our estimate is likely low so be aware.
